Listen to GB2RS on your iPod
January 25, 2008 by kb3ljm.
The GB2RS news service is now available as a podcast. To access our podcast, you will need the latest iTunes software from Apple. This software can be downloaded for free from the Apple website ( www.apple.com/uk/ ) and works with both PC and Macintosh computers. Once you have downloaded and installed iTunes, you will need to set up the software to download the latest GB2RS news in MP3 format. You can do this by clicking on the “Advanced” menu option and then selecting “Subscribe to Podcast”. You will then have to enter a special web address into the box that pops up. The address is: [www.rsgb.org.uk/rss/gb2rs_rss.xml]. The latest issue of GB2RS should now automatically download when it is available. The GB2RS MP3 file will also be copied to your iPod or other MP3 player when you connect it to your computer. Jeremy Boot, G4NJH, kindly provides the GB2RS mp3 files. You can download these directly from his site at: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/g4njh2/rsgb.html
Turn your iPod into an e-book reader
August 3, 2007 by kb3ljm.
Of course you know your iPod plays music, audiobooks and podcasts. In some models, they can also display photos and videos, and play games, too. You might even be aware you can sync your Outlook contacts and calendar files with the iPod to access on the go. So, is that it? Nope.
A little known function is the Notes folder on your iPod, which can be used to read text files. From the main menu on your iPod, select Extras, and then Notes.
While it has its limitations in file size (4KB) and type (.txt files), you can use this to read email messages, websites, electronic books, blogs, song lyrics, and more.

Apple delays release of ‘Leopard’
April 13, 2007 by kb3ljm.
Apple said it won’t be shipping its next-generation operating system in June as planned, saying it had to divert resources from the project so that it could launch its highly anticipated iPhone on time. The new shipment date for Mac OS X “Leopard” will be in October, the company said Thursday. The iPhone will make its debut in June as planned. The “iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price — we had to borrow some key software engineering and (quality assurance) resources from our Mac OS X team,” Apple said in a statement. Apple announced the iPhone — a smart phone that also serves as an iPod music player — in January to much fanfare. The Cupertino-based company said Thursday the iPhone is still on track to be shipped in late June and has passed several of the required certification tests. Apple, which had previously said Leopard would be available in the spring, had hoped to release the Mac operating system upgrade at its Worldwide Developers Conference, a five-day event in San Francisco that starts June 11. Instead, a “near-final version” of Leopard will be ready for the developers at the conference, Apple said. “We think it’ll be worth the wait,” Apple said.
