Fellow MS Chesapeake Challenge 2009 Amateur Radio Volunteers,
Thanks for your offer to help with Amateur Radio communications support for the Multiple Sclerosis Chesapeake Challenge 2009 on June 13-14. This year, the MS Society will hold its two-day Challenge Walk MS 2009 in conjunction with its two-day Bike MS 2009 at Washington College in Chestertown. Challenge Walk MS will be held on Kent Island on Saturday , and in Chestertown on Sunday. Bike MS will be held in Chestertown on Saturday and Sunday. Here is some information on the event, logistics, and the communications support for the event.
We are still in need of amateurs for route support vehicles (SAG). This invitation is open to all amateur radio operators, especially in the Baltimore-Washington area, and Kent/Queen Anne’s/Anne Arundel counties. You do not have to be affiliated with an amateur radio organization.
The Maryland MS Society will provide volunteers with free dorm rooms at Washington College on Friday and Saturday nights, and free meals on Saturday and Sunday. If you want to come to Chestertown or Kent Island but do not have transportation; do not have a 2-meter mobile radio; do not want to drive during the event; or if the cost of gas for the weekend is an issue, please contact Ed N3GXH or me.
Some of you will begin arriving at Washington College in Chestertown on Friday. Ed N3GXH and I will arrive at Washington College on Friday afternoon. Net Control will be located at Washington College (see attached map) near Campus Avenue and Washington Avenue (Rt. 213). Stop in to see us or go to the Check in to register, get your room key, and find your dorm room. Call on the KARS repeater on 147.375 (+600 khz and PL156.7) for talk-in. We will use 147.60 Simplex around Campus. Please program your radio before you leave home, or bring your operating manual.
