Hearing on Baltimore County Antenna Zoning Amendments - Tuesday, July 1, 2:00 P.M.
Your presence is cordially requested to provide a silent show of support for the legislation. Amateur Radio has been mostly invisible for the past 20 years, at least in new communities. Politicians have forgotten about us. This is an opportunity to turn out and show them that we are numerous, and that we are very interested in what they do.
The purpose of these amendments is to reduce the possibility that other Baltimore County hams will be subjected to the type of legal harassment that Bud Governale, W3LL, experienced. Any ham can have a troublesome neighbor move in at any time. The amendments do two things:
- Describe precisely how the setback for a tower is to be computed.
- Allow wire antennas in the front yard without a zoning variance.
Amateur Radio was handed to us on a silver tray by the hams who came before us. They were energetic about defending our rights in court and with legislatures and the FCC. For amateur radio to thrive in the future, it is up to us to be equally energetic.
Details are below.
Tnx & 73,
Tom Coates, N3IJ
Directions: The old courthouse is located at 400 Washington Ave., between Chesapeake and Pennsylvania Avenues. The Council meeting room is on the second floor. Security officers at the side entrances can direct you to the meeting room for the work session (as the council calls its hearings). Parking is available in several public garages. Street parking may also be available, but allow for several hours, because our bill is not the only one on the agenda.
Future events: The vote on the proposed legislation is scheduled for 6 P.M. Monday evening, July 7. Please plan to attend this as well, to see if your councilman votes to support Amateur Radio!
