Volunteers Needed for the MS Bike Tour June 7-8

Hello,

The Multiple Sclerosis of Maryland’s 2008 Bike MS Tour de Shore (formerly MS150 Bike Tour) will be held in Salisbury on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8, June. I am working with Ed Rosen, N3GXH, and the Baltimore Radio Amateur Television Society (BRATS) to coordinate amateur radio communications support for Bike MS. We are still in need of amateurs for the rest stops and route support vehicles (SAG). This invitation is open to all amateur radio operators, especially in the Baltimore-Washington and Salisbury/ Eastern Shore areas. You do not have to be a member of an amateur radio organization. Are you an amateur with EMS/T certification?

Here is some information on the 2008 Bike MS, logistics for volunteers, and the communications support for the event. For the latest information and everything you need to know for June 7-8, you can read the bike MS: Pre-event Newsletter online at:
http://bikemdm.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/MDMBikeEvents?pg=entry&fr_id=8401 The newsletter contains useful info for riders and volunteers such as items to pack, driving directions to Salisbury University, where to check-in for your Dorm Room when you arrive, and the Schedule of Events for the weekend.

The Maryland MS Society will provide volunteers with free Dorm Rooms on Friday and Saturday nights, and free meals on Saturday and Sunday. If you want to come to Salisbury but - do not have transportation; do not have a 2-meter mobile radio; do not want to drive during the event; or if the cost of gas for the weekend is an issue, please contact Ed or me.

Some of you will begin arriving in Salisbury on Friday. Ed N3GXH will arrive at Salisbury University on Friday afternoon and set up Net Control for both days outside the Salisbury University Police Department in the parking lot off Route 13.

Bob WA3SWA has invited us to join him for Friday night dinner at one of the following Salisbury area restaurants:
- Adams Rib in Fruitland, just south of the university. http://adamsribs.com/salisbury/ or
- Station 7 in Pittsville, about 10 miles east of Salisbury. http://station7restaurant.com/index.htm
Check out their menus. Anyone in Salisbury by 6 pm. on Friday is welcome to join him (he’s not buying!!!).

Volunteer Check-in / Dorms / Meals

MS will offer cyclist and volunteer check-in on Friday evening from 5 pm until 9 pm in the Commons area; a late check-in from 9 pm to 2 am in Severn Hall; and again Saturday morning at Severn Hall. If you will arrive after 9 pm, let Ian or Ed know before and we will listen for you on the radio and direct you to the late check-in to pick up your room key. The rooms are dormitory style with two beds. You will have to share the room with another ham. Please bring your own bedding (sheets, pillows, blanket) and other necessities such as toiletries, towels, soap, medications, etc. Bring a powerstrip. Meals will be provided from Saturday Breakfast through Sunday Lunch.

On Saturday, there will be a full breakfast in the Salisbury University cafeteria for cyclists and volunteers starting at 5:30 am. There will be three routes offered on Saturday - 30, 63, and 100 mile options, and two routes on Sunday - 26 and 51 mile options. All cyclists must be off the course by 5 pm, and dinner will be in the campus cafeteria from 4 pm to 7 pm. All are welcome to attend the Saturday night party. On Saturday, the 30 mile route ends at the Bordeleau Vineyards!
