New IBM Technology Enables Single-Chip Mobile Solutions

At the annual FSA Suppliers Expo and Conference, IBM (NYSE:IBM - News) today announced the introduction
of a new semiconductor technology designed for mobile handset and wireless technology markets. This new offering will enable chipset providers for mobile devices to further reduce the complexity of their components — representing a significant savings in manufacturing costs for the next generation of mobile phones, laptops and other portable communication devices.

Pittsburgh upgrades, expands free Wi-Fi

Pittsburgh International Airport has expanded and upgraded the free wireless Internet offered there, airport officials tell The Associated Press. Free Wi-Fi was first offered in 2003 in the airport’s food-court area. It was since been expand to the airside terminal and will now be added to Pittsburgh’s landside terminal as well. Airport officials say the bandwidth has also been upgraded to increase the speed and reliability of the connection.

Arkansas Congressman WD5DVR Speaks at ARRL State Convention

Arkansas congressman Mike Ross, WD5DVR, was a featured speaker at the ARRL Arkansas State Convention on Saturday, September 8. Ross, who represents Arkansas’ 4th District, spoke about the ham radio legislation he introduced in Congress, the “Emergency Amateur Radio Interference Protection Act of 2007″ (HR 462). ARRL Lab Manager Ed Hare, W1RFI, was also at the convention, speaking about BPL. Held at Queen Wilhelmina State Park in Mena, the convention drew hams from several nearby states including Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi. Ross is one of two licensed amateurs in congress; Greg Walden, W7EQI, of Oregon’s 2nd District, is the other.
