Relayed from MS
Hello MS Challenge Walk Volunteer,
Thank you so very much for your help this past weekend at the Bank of America MS Challenge Walk! With close to 200 walkers, we raised over $425,000 in the fight against MS!! This money will go a long way to fund local programs as well as national research initiatives relating to Multiple Sclerosis. On behalf of the National MS Society’s Maryland, Blue Ridge, Hampton Roads and Central Pennsylvania Chapters we want to extend our sincerest thanks for your dedication to our Mission. We truly could not have done this without you. If you need anything from us in the future please don’t hesitate to ask. We look forward to seeing you at some of our future events. Thanks again, have a great day!
All the best,

The K7RA Solar Update
September 20, 2007 by kb3ljm.
The sun has been blank, no visible sunspots, for the past seven days, September 7-13. We may not see another spot until September 22, just before the autumnal equinox. Thursday evening, September 13, Spaceweather.com mentioned a coronal wind hitting earth this evening, September 14. The Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) points south, which makes the Earth vulnerable to solar wind, but other sources don’t call for an increase in geomagnetic activity today. We might assume that a solar wind from 27 to 28 days ago could return at this time, based on the rotation of the Sun relative to Earth. But looking back four weeks does not reveal any heightened activity. Of course, it could be that the IMF pointed north, protecting earth from the coronal wind.

Additionally, by mid-September PCSAT-1 should enter a FULL SUN OPERATING PERIOD. This may present a period of a few weeks when we will have THREE APRS satellites flying in constellation: ISS, PCSAT-1, and ANDE, all operating 145.825 MHz.

Some Thoughts…
September 19, 2007 by kb3ljm.
We are still meeting at the Randallstown Library. The latest news I have from the Central Library in Towson is that, although work on the library at Pikesville is completed and the library is open for use, the work on the meeting room is not yet done. I was asked to call back during early October to learn the status of the renovation. We will then be told if and when we can move back to Pikesville. We do plan to move back as soon as we are permitted to do so. Listen to the Weekly News Bulletin on the repeaters for the latest updates…..

FAR/ARRL MDC SECTION DIGITAL CONVENTION
September 19, 2007 by kb3ljm.
On Sunday, November 11, the Foundation for Amateur Radio will sponsor our MDC Section Convention. It is being hosted by the Armed Forces Retirement Home Amateur Radio Club and will be held in their movie theater. There will be an explanation of many digital modes from 10 am to 12 noon. After lunch, Atlantic Division Assistant Director Albert (W3MIV) Schramm will discuss the results of the recent Atlantic Division survey and their implications. Following that will be a panel discussion of the various modes and issues with moderated questions from the audience. Our guest from League Headquarters will be someone well versed in digital, Mr. Steve (WB8IMY) Ford, editor of QST magazine. An online registration form will soon be posted my website, www.arrl-mdc.net. Since the facility rules DO NOT permit the collection of funds at the door, you MUST pre-register for this. Walk-ins will not be accepted. We plan to have a CD available to attendees with a great deal of information and software to get you started with digital. [Jim Cross, WI3N]
